This year, as a faculty digital scholarship fellow, I developed an assignment in which students create “Editions” of brief segments of Renaissance plays, first using digital archives to see how early printed versions of their chosen texts differ, then collating these differences in an edition and created footnotes and glosses, just as an editor of a modernized text might. The underlying goal is for students to think about the mediation of older literary artifacts in the digital age.
